Subha Wijesiriwardene and Ruvin de Silva were not centrepiece characters. The part is beautifully played, once again by Andrew Garfield; but, for all the ensemble vigour of Anna Mackmin’s production I, felt this was something of a wallow in adolescent anguish. He tells Mo to tell his friend Si the truth but this backfires when Si calls him a pervert and attacks him. William is a loner who lives with his parents Megan Dodds and Nicholas Gleaves. He is currently under commission for two films, an adaptation of the children’s story Island of the Aunts by Eva Ibbotson and a biography of Dusty Springfield. Furthermore, given the fact that all the actors were relative newcomers to the public arena, I was anxious to see some fresh talent. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Escape through death is a leitmotif in the production.

But I guess that means it doesn’t drone on? Subha was the sort of girl other teenage girls love to hate. No trivia or quizzes yet. From this chilling premise is forged a funny, c Characters: A very thought provoking play, although I think I am going to have to either read the ending again or watch a staged version of it to fully understand. Felt a little bit rushed in my opinion.

The cast, for many of whom this was their first mainstream theatre production after school, delivered overall above average performances. Why are we syhopsis disrespectful? What intrigued me most in the lead up to Chatroom was the eclectic cast Tracy had assembled, and her methods of doing so.

Chatroom explores these complex issues through a script that attempted to unravel the complex interplay of emotions, conviction and action through the words and ideas that are exchanged between six characters online. Enda Walsh’s Chatroom is a play about manipulation, cyberbullying and adolescent insecurity.
Coincidentally, a recent article in the New York Times explores the phenomenon of intolerance and hate speech online flaming through the emerging field of social neuroscience — looking into what goes on in our brains when negotiating largely anonymous, online communications and the relationships built thereupon. The group is torn between those who want to help and those who see this as a chance to create a martyr for the teenage population.
Jim, played by Brandon Ingram, actively seeks it. Tracy’s casting was spot on. William sees it to himself to help them in a crude manner. But that’s another story. And there is first-rate support from Claire-Louise Cordwell as the shag-hungry Amy, Matt Smith as the permanent pothead, and Richard Dempsey as the voyeuristic teacher who at one point makes a surreal entrance through the floorboards.
Jim is depressed and chhatroom of ending his life and Eva and William decide to do their utmost to persuade him to carry out his threat. Chat rooms however are more than the sum of each of these characters.

Schoolboy Tom dreams of being kissed, but is unsure whether it is by a man or woman. This was distracting, but nowhere near fatal.
It is for this reason that I found myself slaloming back from Pannipitya, through the mindless hordes that call themselves motorists, in a desperate attempt not to miss a moment of Tracy’s newest production — Chatroom.

They’d be perfect for audition material if someone was looking for some. The regrettable zynopsis never to be repeated, I hope, projection of commercial advertisements before the commencement of the play aside, Chatroom was, as is to be expected from Tracy Holsinger, excellent theatre and personally, a deeply fulfilling return to her directorial style after 3 Star K at the Wendt in Laura, played by Tehani Chitty, found it and yet returned to a life.
